Event Title: The Big Black Dog: Children's Literature Takes on Mental Illness. Nancy Bo Flood will be discussing how mental illness is presented in picture books and middle grade fiction - at one of the largest gatherings of writers.
April 26-27, First Annual Bilingual Book Festival in Albuquerque, New Mexico:
Nancy Bo Flood, will be one of the invited presenting authors for the first annual NHCC Children’s Bilingual Book Festival on Saturday, April 27, 2019. The festival will take place here at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM 87102.
- The festival is being presented by the NHCC in partnership with National Día de los libros/Children’s Day/Book Day; ABQ Reads; Artful Life; Bookworks; the UNM Latin American and Iberian Institute, Native Realities and the University of New Mexico Press with support from the City of Albuquerque and the BNSF Railway Foundation.
- The festival will also launch a summer reading program in which children who are struggling with reading are matched with reading tutors who will provide one-on-one and group tutoring at the NHCC over the summer.
The festival is free and open to the public, with a suggested $5 donation for families who can afford it. We are starting with a one-day festival, this first year, and expect it to expand in subsequent years. Thank you for being one of our inaugural authors.
- Nancy Bo Flood with Navajo illustrator, Jonathan Nelson, will present a 30 minute session at NOON on April 27th.
